Why Choose Bartlett Dental Specialists for Tooth Extractions?
When Are Tooth Extractions Necessary?
We may recommend a tooth extraction in the following situations:
- A wisdom tooth is impacted below the gumline and is at risk of causing orthodontic problems like crowding.
- A severely damaged or impacted tooth is causing pain.
- Advanced gum disease has compromised a tooth, causing it to become loose.
- An infection has spread to the roots of a tooth and endodontic treatment cannot treat it.
Types of Tooth Extractions
Depending on your unique dental situation, our team may recommend either a traditional or surgical tooth extraction:

Traditional Tooth Extraction
If the tooth is visible and our team is able to, we will gently rock it back and forth, allowing it to break free of any tissues that are holding it within the mouth. We will then use an elevator to lift the tooth out of the socket and remove it from the mouth.

Surgical Tooth Extraction
If a tooth is impacted or not fully visible, a surgical extraction may be necessary. In order to access the tooth, we will need to create a window in the gumline. We will then separate the tooth into smaller pieces and gently lift them out of the socket one piece at a time, minimizing the size of the incision needed. Following the surgical extraction, we will suture the area closed and pack it with gauze to help create a blood clot.
